Android devices make it easy to send text messages to people who aren’t on your contacts list — all you have to do is go into the Messages app and type the phone number or email address of the person you want to contact into the To field, and the app will do the rest.
But what if you want to add someone already in your contacts list to a group text? It’s possible, but it takes some effort — unless you know how to add someone to a group text on Android, that is!
Open the Message app
Open your messages app and tap Groups. Then you can create a new group or choose an existing one from your contacts list. If you’re creating a new group, click + and enter in up to five contacts’ phone numbers.
If you’re choosing an existing one, tap it and select Edit > Select All > Deselect All, which will reveal all of its members. Once you have all of your contact info entered into Groups, tap Done at the top right corner of your screen and save.
Tap the three-dot menu button
On most Androids, you’ll find it in the top-right corner of your screen. From there, tap New message and compose your first text.
Next, look for your conversation thread in any of your messaging apps (you might need to head over to Google Hangouts or Messenger if you didn’t start with one of those), then open up that thread.
Tap Group info
If you want to add an individual contact as a member of your group, tap Group info. Then tap Add member. Next, choose whether you want to select, how to add someone to a group text android individual contacts, or use your phone’s built-in address book.
If you choose to add from the phone address book, check that box, and then scroll through your contacts and tap anyone who should be included in your conversation.

Enter each contact’s name and tap Done.

If you want to get rid of people from your group message, tap and hold on their name (at which point they’ll wiggle) and then hit Leave Group.
At any time, you can change an existing member by tapping their name in this menu.
Add New Member. This will open a pop-up with two fields: one for them to enter their number, and another where you can confirm they are who you want in your chat.
Select it, tap Add, and they’re in! You can also block members by tapping Block Member, as well as view previously blocked numbers if any.
Tap Save changes. That’s it!
You now know how to add more people to your chat app groups. These instructions also apply if you want to remove someone from a group. When you’re in your chat app, just go into settings and tap add members.
Then select recent contacts or enter their contact info manually. As long as they’ve already been added once, they should show up under recent contacts or you can search for them using their name.
